School-Based Support & 1:1 Services

Therapeutic Play LA specializes in providing 1:1 school-based support for children enrolled in private and independent schools. These services are designed to help students meaningfully access their learning environment—academically, socially, and emotionally—while feeling safe, understood, and supported.

Our school-based work may include:

  • Providing trained 1:1 aides to support regulation, engagement, transitions, and classroom participation
  • Collaborating closely with teachers, learning specialists, and administrators
  • Supporting children in following classroom routines, engaging with peers, and navigating academic expectations
  • Translating therapeutic goals into practical, developmentally appropriate strategies within the school day
  • Coaching aides and school staff to build shared understanding of a child's learning profile and needs

Rather than focusing on compliance or behavior modification, our approach prioritizes emotional regulation, relationship, and learning readiness, allowing children to develop skills through connection, safety, and intrinsic motivation.

IEP & School Collaboration Support

Therapeutic Play LA supports families and schools in navigating and implementing learning and support plans, including IEPs and equivalent accommodations in private school settings.

Services may include:

  • Reviewing evaluations and learning profiles
  • Helping families understand recommendations and developmental priorities
  • Collaborating with schools to translate goals into practical, day-to-day support strategies
  • Attending meetings when appropriate and supporting alignment between home, school, and outside providers
  • Providing guidance around accommodations, differentiation, and developmental supports within classroom environments

Our role is often to help bridge communication between families and schools while keeping the child's emotional well-being and developmental needs at the center of planning.

Developmental Consultation

Therapeutic Play LA offers developmental consultation to families, schools, and professionals seeking guidance around learning, behavior, regulation, and social development.

Consultation may focus on:

  • Understanding a child's developmental profile and sensory needs
  • Supporting transitions, school placement decisions, or program planning
  • Coaching adults in using developmentally supportive language and strategies
  • Helping teams align around a shared, strength-based understanding of the child

Consultation services are collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to the specific needs of each child and environment.

Inclusive Summer Camp

Therapeutic Play LA also operates an inclusive, play-based summer camp in San Diego designed to support children of all abilities in a low-pressure, relationship-centered environment. Our camp emphasizes sensory exploration, imaginative play, emotional regulation, and social connection while honoring each child's developmental profile.
